Why has moodle changed?

How Moodle Has Changed?

Birmingham City Universiy Moodle has been completely re-built, it is a a brand new system. Whilst courses have been imported from the old system, user data has not. All work completed in the previous system has been archived. Where necessary user data will be copied over from the old to the new system. The archived system is read only.

How will the change affect students?

Students will need to:

Enrolment keys are not always required. Enrolment keys have not changed between the old and the new system. If you have lost or forgotten the enrolment key given to you please contact the lecturer responsible for that module.

Unfortunately we could not import user data into the new system. This means you will have to re-create your user profile. It also means that forum posts, blogs, journal entries, quiz attempts, questionnaires etc. which you completed in the old system will not be present.

If you need to refer back to your old work, then please visit the 2007/08 Archive (links at the bottom of this page). If you wish you can copy and paste information from your archived profile. You will retain access to your existing work, however, you will not be able to edit it.

All new work will need to be undertaken / completed in the new system.

How will the changes affect staff?

If you are a staff Moodle user you should have received an E-Mail from "the service desk" on 18/06/08. This mail contains instructions on how to request access. If you did not receive this email please find instructions here. You will subsequently need to check your access levels are correct, and check that your courses are up to date (when compared to the old system). If courses were changed in the old system after they were imported into the new system, then you can request that they are "refreshed" in the new system. If you are using enrolment keys on your courses, you should re-send these out to students requiring ongoing access. Note, students still have access to their work in the archive. Enrolment keys need to be sent to students for "live courses" as opposed to completed ones.
